Walk Description
A family favourite, we have done this bike ride a numerous times – it’s great to share the journey with other families, perhaps with a picnic or lunch in the pub. The route is largely flat following the disused railway line between York and Selby, with a slight detour to Naburn. This provides a convenient half-way stopping off point as the Blacksmiths Arms is always a welcome sight for parents and kids alike. The track is enclosed so the kids can cycle ahead, although close supervision is required whilst using the lanes entering Naburn. Once ‘refuelled’, the return journey to Riccall always seems to pass quickly.
The alternate parking suggested offers the opportunity for a shorter trip, however, our youngest has done the full journey comfortably since the age of six. (The journey can also be extended to York, page 2 provides outline details.)
