Walk Description
The charming Calder Valley countryside provides the setting for a relaxing journey on the Rochdale Canal towpath. Hebden Bridge marks the half way point and a great stopping off place before the return trip to Sowerby Bridge (which always seems faster as you head downstream). The towpath is a little bumpy in places but does not spoil the enjoyment. The route can be tackled in either direction or shortened to suit abilities (our 6 year old does the full return stretch comfortably). There is also plenty of opportunity to break up the route with parks and pubs along the way. We always complete the journey as detailed, taking in the slight climb on the outward section, then look forward to refreshment and a stroll in Hebden Bridge with pubs, tearooms, cafes and sandwich shops offering plenty of choice.
